AWMA Board Member and V.P. of Operations for Merchants Grocery Co., Inc., Chris Smythers, and AWMA V.P. of Government Relations, Anne Holloway, traveled to U.S. Food and Drug Administration headquarters to meet with top food safety regulators as part of a roundtable discussion on food safety.  The meeting, which included the Director of the Office of Food Safety for the FDA – Nega Beru, Ph.D. – was aimed promoting greater communication with industry on the agency’s Retail Food Safety Initiative.  AWMA was invited to join a few other industry representatives, including NACS, FMI and GMA, to offer insights into ways the agency and our industry might work together to improve food safety practices in retail food stores and throughout the industry. Kunzler Product Name Change

To All Valued Kunzler Customers
Effective immediately, Kunzler is changing the name of their product #1339. The
name of the product will be changing from “5 Pepper & Cheddar Sausage” to “Cheddar &
Pepper Sausage
”.

Please be aware of these changes and update any system information that you have. Kunzler is in the process of updating all of their Product Sales Specification Sheets to reflect the
above changes. Additionally, our promotional and product literature and brochures will be
updated as well.

Merchants Grocery Company will send all our Kunzler customers the updated material when it arrives from Kunzler. If you would like to become a Kunzler customer please contact us about the Kunzler roller grill program.

Thanasi Foods announced a recall on BIGS Dill Pickle Flavored Sunflower Seeds (MGC Item number #4986).

The dates involved are “best if used by 08 Dec 2012 and 09 Dec 2012”.
—These are the only 2 dated affected.
—the product may contain soy(which is not disclosed on the package)

MGC DID NOT SHIP OR RECEIVE ANY PRODUCT WITH THE AFFECTED CODE DATES.

Urgent Recall by the Novartis Consumer Health

Attention MGC Customers: We have had preliminary notification of a recall by Novartis Consumer Health (NCH) as follows:

Novartis Consumer Health, Inc. (NCH) is voluntarily recalling all lots of over-the-counter products Excedrin®, Bufferin®, Gas-X® Prevention® and NoDoz® which are listed in the attached table. These recalls are being implemented following consumer complaints of chipped and broken pills and inconsistent bottle packaging line clearance practices at our Lincoln, Nebraska facility, which could result in the bottles containing foreign tablets, caplets, or capsules. This voluntary recall pertains to all lots with the following expiration dates:
- Excedrin® and No Doz® — December 20, 2014 or earlier
- Bufferin® and GasX® Prevention® — December 20, 2013 or earlier

MGC is awaiting the lot list of recalled products. Where our records indicate you have purchased the lot numbers from MGC, a customer service representative, Lisa Motola, will soon be contacting you regarding the recall.

As per the dates listed above, immediately pull any Excedrin (24) count boxes of (tablets,caplets , extra-strength or migraine) and any NoDoz 16 count boxes.

What To Do
Please set the recalled items in a box/bag marked “DO NOT SELL” and keep the product until you are contacted.
